Updated biographical information:  Jana Freeman (McCarthy)

Life following my Borah Years
I graduated from the University of Idaho, married and had three daughters. Following a divorce, I married fellow U of I graduate and teacher, Tim McCarthy in 1987.  We have had twenty-eight adventurous and good years together!
Now we spend a lot of time with the three girls and their families.  We have five grandchildren , including one much loved step-grandchild; three boys and two girls.  They keep us moving fast as does our baby puppy, an adorable trouble seeker!

Professional Life
I feel very blessed in having spent 35 years in public education. For many years I taught secondary English and history, in both high school and middle school.
Then I became the Meridian District Language Arts Facilitator and later became a middle school principal of two different schools. I finished my full-time career as Director of Curriculum for Meridian. After retiring I came back half-time to supervise magnet schools and innovative projects.
Overall, I loved working with teachers and students and having many opportunities to collaborate with others to create schools and programs that got kids excited about learning.

Activities and joys of retirement
Though I loved my work, I really like retirement. There’s nothing better than having the time to go out to coffee and lunch with friends and family!
My husband and I like to garden, follow our grandkids activities, and travel, especially to the British Isles and the Eastern Seaboard.  We also enjoy going to sports activities (he’s an avid Vandal fan; I’m a Bronco – split family but we get tickets to both universities’ sports)!

Additionally, I enjoy volunteering with the Alzheimer’s Society, teaching special education children at church, and helping students learn to read in my granddaughter’s school.
