After graduation I attended Boise State (then Boise College) and graduated with a BS in biology. I was fortunate in obtaining a job teaching biology back at Borah from 1970 – 1977. It was a unique experience to walk those same halls for 7 more years as a member of the faculty. I remember how strange it felt at first to address some of my former teachers by their first name, instead of as “Mr.” or “Mrs.”!
After deciding that I didn’t want to make a career in education I went to work for the telephone company, working in various management positions for the next 18 years. During that time I also went back to Boise State for a degree in accounting and passed the CPA exam. When I got caught in the “downsizing” movement in the mid-90’s, I started my third career in accounting. I worked in various accounting positions including public accounting, corporate taxation, and controller for a couple of small local companies. I completed my education by returning to Boise State full time for a year in 2009 and completing my Master’s in accounting. I retired in 2013, although I still do a little seasonal accounting work.
I married my high school sweetheart Shirley (Boise High 64) in November 1966. We have two children – Dennis and Jeannine, both Borah graduates, and 4 grandkids.
We lived in Boise until 1995 when we moved out near Homedale on a 30 acre farm beside the Snake River. We started a plant nursery and ran the nursery business and did landscaping for 10 years. However, I was also working full time in Boise the entire ten years we were there, and the combination of the commute and the additional “2nd job” eventually wore us both down. We moved back to Meridian in 2005, where we currently reside. We are now trying to settle into a more relaxed retirement life and are looking forward to some travel around parts of the US in our motor home.
