Married Jacquie Frew, Borah class of 1966. Have 4 boys (lost one to a car crash) and 8 grandkids (4 blood and 4 adoptive). Graduated from University of Idaho in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969. Viet Nam veteran.
Worked for several engineering firms starting in Portland, Oregon and then Phoenix, Arizona. Started my own consulting engineering firm, Knudsen-Smith Engineering, Inc., in Phoenix. Had a medium sized firm of 25 before the economy killed it in 2010. Again have my own firm; K-Tech Engineering and Design. This time I have no employees, just contracted sub-consultants.
Any spare time is filled with leadership positions and activities in the Boy Scouts of America (33 years now), serving in my church (teaching Sunday school is my favorite), hiking anywhere convenient (Colorado is the best), and target shooting (probably a leftover from my Army days).
Many good memories of my high school days and some I'd like to forget like the day Bobbie Harrison told me I shouldn't wear a plaid shirt with madras plaid pants. Man was she right!!
